MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki has clarified that the agency’s investigation into the Human Resources Development Corporation (HRD Corp) is ongoing.

“I don’t know what aspect (of the investigations) this officer was referring to regarding the issue but, generally, we opened up a few files against HRD Corp.

“All investigations are ongoing,” Free Malaysia Today reported him as saying after the closing ceremony of the International Anti-Corruption Day 2024 in Petaling Jaya today.

Earlier, the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) said it was bewildered by the MACC’s decision to not pursue further action against HRD Corp after an investigation.

This comes after PAC revealed that during its proceedings on the matter, an MACC investigation officer told the committee that the graftbusters found no wrongdoing in its investigation.

“The Investigation Department has opened investigation papers on this. Based on the investigation, we found no offence was committed under the MACC Act 2009.

“Thus, we have forwarded the relevant information to the Inspection and Consultation Department,” he said.

Failing audit

HRD Corp landed in hot water after the Auditor-General’s Department recommended that the Human Resources Ministry refer the company to the relevant enforcement agencies after it failed its audit.

Separately, the PAC revealed that HRD Corp had utilised RM3.77 billion in levies collected from employers for training development programmes for various investments that did not align with its original purpose.

The Human Resources Ministry lodged a report to the MACC on July 5, which then formed a special investigation team to probe HRD Corp.
